No Smoking Day 2012 – Wednesday 14th March

2012 will be an extraordinary year for the UK, particularly with the Olympics giving a focus on being fit and healthy.  2012 is also a Leap Year – so what better time to ‘take the leap’ to stop smoking than on Wednesday 14 March – No Smoking Day.

Many thousands of people do decide that they will “take the leap” to quit smoking every year.  Not everyone knows that the NHS provides a free service for people wanting to stop. People who use the NHS Stop Smoking Service are up to four times more likely to succeed in stopping than trying to stop without help.

Warwickshire NHS Stop Smoking Service can help by providing regular support appointments over the first few weeks of quitting, along with a prescription for nicotine replacement therapy (patches, gum, etc).   Zyban and Champix are also available on prescription at doctors’ surgeries.  Stop Smoking Services are available at doctors’ surgeries and pharmacists around the county.

A Roadshow ,staffed by friendly experts who can offer help and advice about stopping smoking, will be visiting the following venues:

Atherstone – Tuesday 6 March
Royal Priors Shopping Centre, Leamington Spa – Friday 9 March
Morrisons in Stratford – Tuesday 13 March
Nuneaton marketplace – Wednesday 14 March

In addition to help from their local Stop Smoking Service many smokers are also finding that www.wequit.co.uk provides a friendly online forum that is a great place for smokers to record their smokefree journey, whilst sharing experiences with friends and other quitters   There is also a Facebook app, interactive tools, top tips to quit and much more.
