Public Health

The Public Health White Paper ‘Healthy Lives, Healthy People: Our Strategy for Public Health in England’ reinforces the core public health philosophy that everyone, including partners, businesses, communities and individuals, has a shared responsibility for improving public health.  The central aim of this strategy is to “help people live longer, healthier and more fulfilling lives, and improve the health of the poorest fastest.”  This is the aim in Warwickshire too.

Each year, NHS Warwickshire's Director of Public Health produces an annual report, which provides an independent assessment of the health of the local population.  The 2011 report, entitled ‘Reaching Higher: Healthy Lives, Healthy People, Healthy Warwickshire’, appraises the current services provided and, using best practice evidence, considers how best to deal with the County’s public health priorities.

The report has a clear focus and details recommendations around everyone’s roles in tackling what the Director considers to be the five key public health priorities within Warwickshire.  These being obesity, alcohol, cancer and screening, mental health and wellbeing, and health protection – sexual health.

In addition, the report will be supported by the production of more detailed localised profiles and datasets.

A new feature of this year’s report is the link to the supporting data in an interactive spreadsheet.
