NHS Warwickshire is the organisation which plans, develops and Commissions healthcare to meet the needs of the local population.

We provide many services including community hospitals, district nursing, foot health and physiotherapy. It is also our role to buy /commission health services from other providers on your behalf. NHS Warwickshire will use its funds so you can see an NHS dentist, visit your GP or get hospital treatment.   Each year we spend around £630 million on healthcare. This covers everything from a world-class stroke service to top-performing GP practices and projects to help people improve their wellbeing.

  • Commissioning
Process by which the health needs of the local population are identified. Priorities for investment are set and appropriate services are purchased and evaluated. Primary Care Trusts do not provide all of the healthcare services needed by the local population, they buy-in or commission services from other provider organisations. Typically this includes local hospitals.
  • GP
GP stands for General Practitioner. GPs are family doctors.
  • stroke
A stroke is caused by a disturbance of blood supply to the brain. Strokes are the leading cause of disability in the UK and the third most common cause of death after cancer and coronary heart disease.
